Using API's for self populating content?

Examples being to have a widget that you input a zipcode into (it asks to save the location if we're feeling fancy) and gives the forcast based on, example, weather.com.

Or a widget that gives the XKCD of the day.

And so on.

Little things like that where you can cheaply get contnet from while the users here figure out how they want to populate community tabs.

that's just about how the weather form in the program actually works, i just wish i had access to a global API feed of forecast and current weather data.
