having the same problem. I tried other protocols too. The latest pidgin doesn't have "AIM" listed as a protocol anymore. Not sure if there's a pidgin plugin to work with the latest pidgin or not...

I would say for the time being using an older version is the only solution.

you gotta use a older version of pidgin, the last version of pidgin that has the aim protocol is from 2017 iirc
