Mac OS 8.6 AIM 4.0 issues
Posted on: 11-21 1:46 am

Hi guys, I've been trying to get a different version of AIM to install on my Ethernet-connected iMac G3 but I simply can't so I have to resort to using a preinstalled version, 4.0. How do I change the host URL? I know about making host files or whatever, but how the hell do I do that? I don't know a thing, only ever installed on Windows with a clean and easy setup. This is unimaginably difficult. What am I supposed to do? My TCP/IP is completely untouched and AIM has no proper setup screen, just tries to force me to connect to a modem or TCP/IP. Any ideas at all? Visuals would greatly help.

So I went into files and changed the TCP file, and it goes as far as logging in when doing a TCP/IP setup but then it freezes, saying the host abruptly ended the connection...any ideas why?

I have been trying with the host file as this

login.oscar.aol.com. A 184.15.124.70

slogin.oscar.aol.com. A 184.15.124.70

toc.oscar.aol.com. A 184.15.124.70

but it just tries connecting indefinetly so that's as far as I go but hope this helps ^-^

Talk to me if you can get AIM to work on Mac OS 8.1 or any other classic systems.

I figured out you just have to put in the correct IP address for iwarg.ddns.net you can go to places like IP checker to do so.
