Hey RockinKat, thanks for all your insight and info.
I downloaded and installed one of the 2.0 versions of ResEdit and problem solved. Yes, there is in fact a version 3, however I think it might have been a developer release or something as it seems rather incomplete. You can find it by searching for it on http://www.macintoshrepository.com. Anyway, I'm curious if you have any solutions for my new problem. While I've successfully updated the server to the new one and have successfully signed on to the service a few times, I'm now receiving this message: "Your session with the AOL Instant Messenger (SM) service has unexpectedly shut down."

I have the same problem it always changes the port number to 1591 not sure why but it has always done this regardless if I used hosts in the top/ip control panel or using resedit. It may just be a flaw in the program.

Talk to me if you can get AIM to work on Mac OS 8.1 or any other classic systems.

Yeah, the problem is port number keeps changing in preferences. I do not get why. It's weird.

I actually dug in and found the error message using resedit and edited in a note to myself to go into preferences and fix the stupid port number. It's really annoying.
