Stuck On Connecting

I've tried pidgin, AIM 5.1, AIM Pro, and the phoenix messenger, and whenever I try to connect it gets stuck on "connecting". I made sure the address was set correctly, and that the settings were correct in pidgin, but it still gets stuck.
