Since it's already leaked into the forums anyway, this might as well have its own category. Many questions are lingering about the scope and basis of the new project, so here is the official report.

Phoenix Desktop is an all original code base that I have aimed to make simple and easy to work with while trying to re-implement all aspects of AOL Desktop 4.0, It is NOT like the AOL-Emu project which is just a static client-only thing that does little more than have the AOL interface.

Phoenix desktop will feature a server / client architecture wherein the server will handle authentications and presence info and offer game matchmaking services for the games subsystems, and like AOL all the channels will be available. ALL registered Phoenix users will have the ability to create and submit content to the channels, in the form of web script or .net forms application code, if you can write vb.net, c#, or html / javascript, you can begin submitting your own content (very soon).

Once I have finished the web interfaces for content management and implemented all the channel vendors we will begin the process of opening to public alpha testing.

Wildman I have a question. Will the official client of aol work, or is my expectations not justified?

It's a custom version, and it uses oscar iirc, so it doesnt use the same protocol as regular AOL Desktop, so im pretty sure that wont work (for now atleast)

Also, will this have AIM integration?

I know some people regard this as cheating but.... If I made something in HTML on Microsoft Frontpage.... Could that be used in the channels

technically it should, I suppose, as long as its html / javascript.
